Carnelian Agate
Carnelian agate starts out life like most other agate but something has to happen to it to bring out it's beautiful coloration!
Carnelian agates are made of quartz family minerals and colored yellow through red getting their coloration from iron oxides.
Some agate is formed in its host as a uncolorful mass and it takes time and water to oxidize the iron within the stone turning it red or it takes the stone being buried in iron oxide rich sediments and literally soaking up the coloration from it's environment.
Carnelian is a stone prized by many ancient cultures representing a stone of balance and protection.
