About Black Opal

🌑 Black Opal – Two Dark Variants, One Dazzling Display
Black opal comes in two primary forms: black opal and black crystal opal. Both are celebrated for their vivid play of color, but they form in slightly different ways.
Black opal is precious opal layered naturally over a dark base of common opal. This dark backing acts like a built-in amplifier, enhancing the brightness and depth of the rainbow flash. It’s sometimes called a “natural doublet,” but unlike man-made versions, it forms this way on its own.
Black crystal opal, on the other hand, has a dark body tone throughout the whole stone. It’s translucent to transparent with a gray, charcoal, or jet-black base that creates incredible contrast. When light hits the internal spheres of silica just right, the result is a stunning and often ethereal glow.
These darker opals are rarer and more valuable because their contrast makes the color pop so dramatically.
