About Imperial Jasper

Green Imperial Jasper

🌄 Imperial Jasper – Fine-Grained Beauty from the Canyons of Mexico

Imperial Jasper is considered one of the five “fine jaspers,” alongside Bruneau, Morrisonite, Willow Creek, and Blue Mountain. Sourced from steep canyon slopes about 50 miles northwest of Guadalajara, Mexico, this jasper forms in a lush, rugged region north of San Cristobal—where dense vegetation hides a six-kilometer stretch of world-class deposits.

The stone appears in veins, nodules, and filled vugs embedded in tough host rock. While pieces over 100 lbs have been recovered, most material is smaller due to natural fracturing. These deposits are some of the richest and most productive in the jasper world—with over 100 tons extracted in the last decade alone. That’s more than the combined output of the other four fine jasper sites.

Collectors and cutters will recognize the diverse naming conventions tied to each zone: Pink Imperial, Brown Imperial, Green Imperial, Spiderweb Imperial, Select Imperial, and Royal Imperial—all offering distinct patterns and palettes.

🌰 Royal Imperial Jasper is particularly special. Found in a secluded side canyon, this variety forms entirely as small, flat nodules with soft, chalky exteriors. Inside, many reveal the prized “egg pattern”—an internal formation process unique to certain types of jasper. While not all Imperial Jasper shows this structure, Royal Imperial is considered the largest and finest egg-patterned deposit in the world.

This material is beloved by lapidaries for its polish, by collectors for its rarity, and by nature lovers for its story—formed deep in a canyon where stone remembers its own origin.
