Cool blue-green silica layered slowly by hot spring water in the McDermitt Caldera. The color drifts between seafoam and deeper teal with soft translucent bands that catch the light across the polish. Look closely and you can see the quiet layering that built the stone one mineral film at a time.
Gary Green jasper forms where silica-rich hot spring water repeatedly deposits microcrystalline quartz at the surface. Each cycle leaves a thin mineral layer, slowly building the banded structure seen in the stone. Occasionally plant material can be trapped in those deposits, but this piece shows clean translucent silica growth without wood. The cabochon was cut to follow the natural mineral layering and wrapped in hammered copper that echoes the curve of the stone. Only one available.
