Libyan Desert Glass

Libyan Desert Glass is a tektite or a meteor impact glass from the deserts of Egypt (not Libya!) however they believe that the meteor impact was in Libya and created glass for over 28.5 million years ago. 

At first people thought that Libyan Desert glass was caused by an explosion in the atmosphere, however, due to special kinds of zircon, they now know it was created by a meteor impact. 

Libyan Desert glass export has been restricted by the Egyptian government as a cultural resource and no longer exported.
