This one has teeth. A long blade of black sheen obsidian catches the light in smoky, curved bands that seem to move beneath the polish, while a small natural garnet sits near the top like a drop of dark red. The shape was already unmistakably knife-like, so I leaned into it instead of trying to make the stone behave like something softer.
Obsidian forms when silica-rich volcanic lava cools quickly enough that crystals don't have time to grow, leaving behind natural volcanic glass. The subtle sheen comes alive as the stone moves through the light. I built the knife around that dramatic freeform cabochon in sterling silver, added the garnet at the hilt, then antiqued the metal to bring out every line of the construction. One of one, because a stone shaped like this gets to decide what it becomes.
