Welo Opal
Welo opal is one of the many types of opal that come from Ethiopia and were first discovered in 1994. The original discovery was in the Menzgishe district of the north part of the Shewa province of Ethiopia. Found in rhyolite above a clay layer.
The most important discovery of opal was in 2008 near the town of Wegel Tena in the Wollo province and it is more stable than previous discoveries. It's also known as welo and wollo opal.
The full extent of the deposit is unknown because the opal bearing strata is overlain by 300 meters of overburden.
