Weloopalis one of the many types ofopalthat come from Ethiopia and were first discovered in 1994. The original discovery was in the Menzgishe district of the north part of the Shewa province of Ethiopia. Found in rhyolite above a clay layer.
The most important discovery ofopalwas in 2008 near the town of Wegel Tena in the Wollo province and it is more stable than previous discoveries. It's also known as welo and wolloopal.
The full extent of the deposit is unknown because theopalbearing strata is overlain by 300 meters of overburden.
