All About Garnet

Garnet isn’t just one stone—it’s a whole mineral family, packed with variety. Garnets can form in almost every color of the rainbow, from deep wine-red to brilliant green, orange, pink, and even rare blues.

Red garnet is the most common and has been cherished across continents for millennia. But there are other jaw-dropping varieties too, like tsavorite (a rare green), spessartine (orange), and rhodolite (purple-red). Some garnets even shift color like alexandrite.

All garnets share the same crystal structure, but their chemical composition varies, creating distinct gem types. The five main species used in jewelry are pyrope, almandine, spessartine, grossular, and andradite. Uvarovite rounds out the group with its tiny green crystals often seen in clusters.
