Some keys are meant for doors. Others belong to the people who have always been drawn to forgotten places, old stories, and things that seem to hold a little mystery. This antique skeleton key has been transformed into a one-of-a-kind pendant, crowned with a brilliant Aurora Opal that flashes electric green, violet, gold, and fiery orange. Intricate copper spirals climb the aged metal, giving the whole piece the feeling of something discovered in an old curiosity cabinet.
The centerpiece is a large, manmade Aurora Opal topped with an optical quartz cap that magnifies its spectacular play of color. I wrapped the antique key by hand in copper, building delicate coils and curling scrollwork around the gemstone while preserving the character of the original metal. The contrast between the weathered key and the almost otherworldly color is what makes this piece so striking. There will never be another exactly like it.
