Grape agate is the trade name for botryoidal chalcedony, formed as masses of tiny rounded silica growths. Polishing across those spheres exposes their internal structure instead of the familiar bumpy surface, giving this piece that unusual mosaic-like texture. The green mineralization adds another layer of natural weirdness without pretending to be perfectly symmetrical.
