This is one of the stranger patterns Iāve seen in Velvet Basin Jasper. Soft peach and salmon shapes break through smoky lavender-gray and cream in a dense, porcelain-fine jasper. Fine dark seams divide the colors into irregular fragments, giving the whole stone a beautifully chaotic, almost brecciated appearance. Itās subtle from a distance and completely bonkers once you actually look at it.
Velvet Basin can produce remarkably different patterns within the same material, and this is an uncommon expression of it. Rather than translucent chalcedony, this piece is dense, opaque and exceptionally fine grained, giving it that smooth porcelain-like appearance and glassy polish. The muted peach and lavender palette makes the unusual structure even more apparent.
