This labradorite is doing something spectacular. Most of the stone lights up in broad sheets of violet and lavender, then one section suddenly breaks into a hot orange-gold flash. I love stones like this because the color isn't sitting on the surface. It appears, disappears and shifts as the stone moves, so what you see depends entirely on the light and your angle.
Labradorite is a feldspar famous for labradorescence, an optical effect created when light interacts with microscopic internal structures in the stone. This piece has an especially unusual combination of dominant purple flash with a concentrated patch of gold, orange and green.
