This is one of my favorite kinds of stones because it records something that isn’t there anymore. Mossy green inclusions drift through translucent agate beside crisp geometric tubes and angular openings... impressions left behind by earlier crystals that formed first and were later dissolved away. What remains is essentially a mineral ghost, preserved in chalcedony.

These geometric features are molds after pre-existing crystals, sometimes described as negative crystals or pseudomorphic textures depending on how they formed. Instead of the usual soft branching patterns people associate with moss agate, this piece combines mossy inclusions, beautifully defined agate banding, and those strange hollow geometric structures. It is genuinely unusual material.

✨ Stone: Natural moss agate with geometric crystal molds
šŸ”Ø Setting: Glue-on bail, bronze tone
šŸ“ Size: Approx. 1.75" including bail
šŸŽØ Color: Translucent smoky brown, blue-gray, cream and moss green
šŸ’Ž Finish: High polish with naturally open crystal molds
⚔ Energy: Grounding, growth, connection and transformation

Part of my Everyday Earth Collection and available in our Lincoln City shop and online. I see a lot of agate, and material like this still stops me. The combination of moss, fortification-like banding and preserved crystal geometry makes this a particularly special one-of-a-kind piece.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Rare geometric molds preserve the shapes of crystals that are no longer there
  • Mossy mineral inclusions create tiny landscape-like areas
  • Fine blue-gray agate banding surrounds the open tubes
  • A genuinely unusual example of how minerals can record earlier stages of their own formation
  • Completely one of a kind
