This one is gloriously weird. Rust red, earthy green, cream and smoky chalcedony surround a whole field of little skeletal forms, open pockets and sparkling crystal-lined cavities. Instead of hiding the structure of the material, this cut landed right in the strange stuff and put it front and center.
Spirit Plume Flower Agate comes from Ternate, Indonesia, and this material is especially interesting because of its complex plume structures, replacement textures and secondary crystal growth. In this piece, some of those structures remain open rather than completely filled with silica, leaving tiny cavities lined with sparkling quartz crystals. The result is part agate, part miniature geologic excavation.
