Larimar
Larimar is a blue stone found only in the Dominican Republic. Only about 3% of Larimar mined is gem quality, meaning the right color of blue and dense enough to cut and polish.
Larimar is a rare form pectolite or a member of the silicate family and only occurs in a one square kilometer area being mined from an ancient volcanic complex. It ranges from gray and white to greens and blues with hematite, copper and calcite inclusions.
Larimar is mined at one mine only, a single mountainside with almost 2000 separate vertical shafts. It occurs in a basalt and andesite which erupted through limestone. The larimar is a secondary deposition in the vesicles of the hardened lavas.
Larimar should be stored away from sunlight as some can fade over time.
