Lilypad Jasper

Lilypad jasper starts life as the volcanic rock rhyolite. Hollows in the rhyolite or thundereggs, fill with quartz crystals, agate or jasper and the stone is harvested as big chunks with little thundereggs within the stone.  

Lilypad jasper is mined between Madras and Redmond Oregon, right off Hwy 97. The older material tends to be harder but you can still find good material if you look hard.
