Rainforest Jasper

Rainforest jasper starts life as the volcanic rock rhyolite. Hollows in the rhyolite fill or thunderegg fills with quartz crystals, agate or jasper and the stone is harvested as big chunks with little thundereggs within the stone.

Rainforest jasper is mined from an eruption of the long extinct Mount Hay volcano near Queensland, Australia, which had the perfect rhyolite eruption to form this incredible stone about 120 million years ago.
