About Feldspar

Feldspar is the most common mineral in the Earth’s continental crust—making up over 50% of the rocks you walk on. It’s not just abundant; it’s beautiful, too. Some of our most beloved gemstones come from the feldspar family, including moonstone, sunstone, labradorite, and amazonite.

Feldspar minerals are known for their distinct cleavage, meaning they break cleanly along flat surfaces where crystal planes intersect. This makes them unique in lapidary work and also explains their crisp, angular patterns when they fracture. Most feldspars fall between 6 and 6.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, making them a solid choice for most types of jewelry with just a bit of care.
